“When completed in 1931, Torni Hotel represented a new era. Stylistically, it was a combination of art deco and functionalism, while being one of the firs buildings in Finland with electricity. Another step in the new era was the 1930 construction of an access hatch to the roof of the hotel for the voyage of the Graf Zeppelin airship on September 24th. The idea was that the airship could land on the roof of the hotel where the ship's passengers could proceed down the ladder to the bar for cocktails. However, the airship did not land atop Torni, but a passage made for it can still be found on the roof of the Ateljee Bar at the top of the hotel.”

“Torni Heritage Menu is a tribute to more than 90 years of Torni's gastronomic history. During the most recent renovation in 2022, vintage Torni cookbooks were discovered in the hotel's vaults and enthusiastically browsed through by the staff. It was discovered that certain dishes have been passed down through the hotel's storied history - to this end, the fish starters that have earned a place as perennial favorites on Torni's list, the elegant duck breast, and the French-inspired desserts now charm our guests as traditional treasures on our menu.”

“Fish and seafood have always had a place of honor on the menus of Torni's varied restaurants. After all, the first restaurant in Finland to focus on fish products, the “Osteri” fish restaurant, opened in 1963 in Torni. Between 1950 and 1970, Torni was a pioneer of gastronomy in the whole country, and Helsinki residents were able to enjoy crabs, shrimp buffet and other seafood delicacies. Today, the restaurant's crown jewel, the Seafood Tower, with its oysters and mussels, brings the traditions of yesteryear and today's trendy delicacies to their rightful place at the dinner table.”

“The Knights of Torni (Tornin Ritarit) is Torni's own fraternity, founded by Torni's manager and businessman Jorma Soiro in 1949. From the very beginning, the Knights of Torni were a European-oriented society, inspired by European food and wine fraternities. Torni has been a pioneer in bringing many gastronomic trends to Finland, and the first cookery books in Finland were written and printed in or by Torni. The Knights of Torni continue to meet to celebrate their anniversary and to induct new knights on their founding day, September 19th.”

“The Art Nouveau-style apartment building Kyllikki, next to Hotel Torni, was incorporated into the hotel in 1981. The original residents of Kyllikki opposed the construction of the Torni, Finland's first skyscraper, until the very end. They feared that the tall building would take away the last rays of sunshine from the Kyllikki courtyard. Kyllikki's nine residential apartments now form 50 stylish hotel rooms in the Torni. To this day, the walls of the Kyllikki still display the magnificent ornaments and paintings that were restored when it was incorporated into Hotel Torni.”
