In honor of Kalevala Day, the hottest Finnish disco club in the north will grind out beats and schlager music onto Freetime's dance floor!
DJ Arttu Seppänen has spent years traveling around Finland searching for domestic schlager vinyl records at flea markets. What makes the evening unique are all the special and rare records that can't be heard in any form even on the internet. Jytää ja iskelmää combines these oddities and specialties of Finnish schlager with evergreens familiar to everyone.
Seppänen is also a journalist well-versed in domestic pop music, and between records, he shares unusual background stories about the songs. Years of research and collecting have resulted in an irresistible and ecstatic dance event that draws full houses across Finland. You won't experience an evening like this anywhere else.
Jytää ja iskelmää is about maintaining a disappearing folk culture and creating a Kaurismäki-esque utopia, if only for one evening. Old Finnish schlager music is meant to be heard on vinyl. And it's meant to be danced to.
See you at Freetime!
