The new wave Finnish rock band Tiisu will release their new album "Kuuluisat viimeiset sanat" in February and celebrate it with an album release tour. The band will perform at Freetime in Jyväskylä on Saturday, March 14.
Tiisu rose to prominence in 2015 with their debut album "Elämän koulu," which was described as a "crazy carnival" – Finnish rock played with gleaming eyes and an open heart. The album was selected as YleX's album of the week, establishing Tiisu as the hope of new Finnish rock. Their second album "Tänne ei jää kukaan," released in 2017, was darker and more serious but also received recognition as YleX's album of the week. After a long break, in the aftermath of the pandemic, their 2022 album "III" brought musical development and excellent reviews. Tiisu's new album, releasing early this year, explores themes including the climate crisis, societal fractures, contradictions in friendship, and the absurd core of humanity.
Tiisu began in the early 2010s at Sibelius High School in Helsinki. Singer-songwriter Henrik Illikainen moved from Somero to the capital with dreams of forming a band. He was joined by bassist Väinö Karjalainen, drummer Riku Sonkkanen, guitarist Petteri Pulkkinen, and keyboardist Antti Vuorenmaa. "Tiisu was born – not with reason, but with feeling. The band was built like Frankenstein's monster: from parts that don't belong together, but come alive when struck by lightning."
Warming up the stage for Tiisu will be Jyväskylä-based Lempivärit, performing their only spring gig so far! Lempivärit delights, touches, and amuses audiences with their atmospheric performances. The band combines quality and versatile music with lyrics that address equality and environmental and climate crises with a personal touch. Their melodies echo influences from folk music, progressive rock, jazz, and the singer-songwriter tradition. However, the songs escape genre boundaries, taking the listener to undefined places and moods. Lempivärit's album "Tehkää jotakin!" was released in summer 2024. See you at Freetime!
