The new wave Finnish rock band Tiisu will release their new album "Kuuluisat viimeiset sanat" in February and celebrate it with an album release tour. The band will perform at Freetime in Jyväskylä on Saturday, March 14.
Tiisu rose to prominence in 2015 with their debut album "Elämän koulu," which was described as a "crazy carnival" – Finnish rock played with gleaming eyes and an open heart. The album was selected as YleX's album of the week, making Tiisu the hope of new Finnish rock. The second album "Tänne ei jää kukaan," released in 2017, was darker and more serious, but also received recognition as YleX's album of the week. After a long break, in the aftermath of the pandemic, the 2022 album "III" brought musical development and excellent reviews. The themes of Tiisu's new album, to be released early this year, include the climate crisis, societal fractures, contradictions in friendship, and the absurd core of humanity.
Tiisu began in the early 2010s at Sibelius High School in Helsinki. Singer-songwriter Henrik Illikainen moved from Somero to the capital with the dream of forming a band. He was joined by bassist Väinö Karjalainen, drummer Riku Sonkkanen, guitarist Petteri Pulkkinen, and keyboardist Antti Vuorenmaa. "Tiisu was born – not with reason, but with feeling. The band was built like Frankenstein's monster: from parts that don't belong together, but come to life when struck by lightning."
See You @ Freetime!
