Refreshments, wine, sweet and savoury delicacies are available between the summer opera and concerts.

The main foyer, both terraces, the Thick Bastion and the Water Gate are also open without advance reservations. However, we recommend making a reservation in advance. Please note that places are limited.

In two-intermission operas and concerts, intermission products can only be reserved for the first intermission. The intermission time of 8.30 p.m. is indicative, the exact time varies from one event to another.

We recommend choosing an interval point at the interval point closest to your seat in the stands. The castle is very labyrinthine, so we recommend finding out the physical location of your intermission point before the start of the performance.

Paksu Bastion

The Thick Bastion serves as a serving area during the Olavinlinna Opera Festival.

The front rows of the A, B and C stands are the best way to get to Paksu Bastion, which can be accessed from the lower right corner of the stage (seen from the stands), and there are steep stairs leading down to the space. Paksu Bastion also has its own toilets.

Intermission refreshments will be served with your name on the standing tables or seats. The time is 8.30 p.m. when booking intermission refreshments.

Castle terraces

The lower terrace of the castle serves as a serving area for pre-booked products during the Olavinlinna Opera Festival. Both on this lower terrace and on the upper Lanson Champagne terrace, the bars are also open without a reservation.

Weather conditions, mainly strong winds or rain, prevent us from opening our terraces. If you make an advance reservation for catering on the terrace, we will transfer your order to the King's Hall in the event of rain. We will notify you by text message on the same day.

Please note that we do not take advance reservations for the Lanson Champagne Terrace (upper terrace).

The upper rows of the A and C stands and the D stands are the best way to access the terraces, which can be accessed both from under the stands through the Main Foyer or from above between the C and D stands.

Water Gate

The water gate is the first square when you arrive at the castle, you can easily recognize this from the old Forest Lehmus. You can easily find here in all the stands, you just return the same way back from where you came to the castle.

At Vesiportti you will find sales points offering café products and cool drinks. You can also make a reservation for catering in advance at Vesiportti.

Linnantupa

Restaurant Linnantupa only covers pre-booked restaurant catering. You can get here from all the stands by taking the same route back from where you came to the castle. When you come to the small castle courtyard, there is a yellow-walled building on the right. From here you can go up to Linnantupa, there is a sign next to the stairs. Please note that the stairs are challenging.

In the summer of 2025, we will reopen the popular Lanson champagne bar on the upper terrace of Olavinlinna Castle!

The champagne bar is open before the evening's performance from 6 p.m. and during the intermission of the opera, weather permitting. We do not take reservations for the champagne bar in advance.

A warm recommendation to arrive at the castle already at 6 p.m., avoid traffic jams and enjoy a glass of sparkling wine in good company and in the magnificent scenery of Lake Saimaa!
