Major refurbishment of the Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel to begin at the turn of the year

The Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel Opens in a new tab will close at the turn of the year for approximately three months to undergo a major refurbishment. The hotel will be refurbished from top to bottom – from the rooms, restaurant and meeting facilities right through to the lobby, lighting and building services.

The Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel is one of Turku’s best-known hotels and is centrally located on Linnankatu, on the banks of the River Aura. Having provided hotel services since 1974, the Marina Palace is renowned for its river views, its event venues and the Submarina, which remains a fond memory for the city’s residents. Turun Osuuskauppa has been responsible for the hotel’s operations since 2011.

“The Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel is an important and recognisable landmark in Turku. With this investment, we are comprehensively revitalising the guest experience and ensuring that Marina Palace continues to serve tourists, conference guests and local residents as a key part of Turku’s service offering for years to come,” says Tarja Jalonen, Business Area Director at Turun Osuuskauppa.

The premises are being completely refurbished

The refurbishment will see all 184 rooms in the hotel, including four suites, updated. In addition, the hotel’s reception, lobby, public areas, breakfast room, restaurant and 13 meeting rooms will be refurbished. The hotel’s lighting and AV technology will also be upgraded to better meet the needs of modern travellers, conference guests and event attendees.

In future, the legendary Submarina will also be directly accessible from the restaurant. It will continue to operate as a private dining venue and event space, while also providing a setting for events produced by the hotel. The venue’s history and atmosphere are a significant part of Marina Palace’s identity, and the refurbishment will further enhance the ways in which the space can be used.

“In this refurbishment, we are honouring the hotel’s history while creating a more functional, comfortable and memorable Marina Palace. The old and the new are being combined thoughtfully: the hotel’s distinctive features, such as the beautiful staircase and the sparkling crystal chandelier above it - which are integral to the Radisson Blu Marina Palace’s recognisable look - will be preserved,” explains General Manager Titta-Liina Gustafsson.

The hotel and its restaurants will be closed for approximately three months from the turn of the year while the refurbishment work is carried out. Around 70 hospitality professionals work at the Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel. During the closure, efforts will be made to offer staff alternative work within Turun Osuuskauppa.

The hotel’s unique location on the Aura River, its excellent conference and event facilities, the city’s cultural attractions, its maritime character and archipelago, as well as growing demand from corporate and international guests, make it a key part of Turku’s developing tourism and events offering. This combination creates a strong foundation for the next phase of Marina Palace,” says Gustafsson.

During the renovation work, Sokos Hotels will serve accommodation and meeting service needs in Turku.
