The world is full of all kinds of trinities. And not just religious ones, as even ancient pagan peoples knew rational trinities. Various trinities have taken root so firmly in the Western worldview that they are inevitably somewhat sacred. Ice hockey has three periods. In philosophers' dialectics there's thesis, antithesis and synthesis. At a club there's the band, the audience and the floor. Aavikko has three members.
Founded in Siilinjärvi in 1995, Aavikko is functional utility music, electronic sound design with synthesizers. The band, now in its third decade of existence, is the culmination of a utopia of retro-futuristic Eastern Bloc synthesizer bands of bygone eras, decisively commanding rhythms and whippingly addictive melodies that make you dance. The band's expression is best crystallized by yet another trinity: melody, harmony and rhythm. Muysic non stop.
The term "muysic" that the band uses for its music is, in all its simplicity, intoxicatingly addictive. The expression already captured on six albums gets under your skin like entertainment show logos or supermarket shelf rows. It doesn't reflect faith in technology itself, but rather the desire to use electronic technology as a path to the human soul and heart. A defining feature of the band's live performances is the impossibility of not dancing when the band plays – this is also crystallized by the simple command familiar from gigs: "we play, you dance".
