Bomba tourism area to offer expanded services in summer

The services of the Bomba tourism area will be further expanded, as the Northern Karelia Cooperative Society opens its own experience service company in summer 2024, offering diverse activities and equipment rental. The offerings will include high-quality nature tours in the unique surroundings, ranging from canoe tours on Lake Pielinen to snowmobiling on forest trails, as well as a rich selection of rental equipment, from electric bikes to fishing gear. Break Sokos Hotel Bomba will also have its own beauty salon and an S barbershop-hair salon. The aim is to increase the attractiveness of Bomba as a versatile tourist destination.

“Bomba is becoming one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in Finland. Its popularity stems from its proximity to nature, unique sense of peace, genuine hospitality, versatility, cultural milieu, as well as high-quality accommodation, spa and restaurant services,” Satu Näsärö, Business Area Director at the Northern Karelia Cooperative Society (PKO), explains.

“By offering experience services, Bomba will become an even more versatile tourist destination, and provide visitors with reasons to return, time after time, also for longer stays. By producing high-quality activities ourselves, we can influence their availability, quality and pricing,” Näsärö adds.

"We are also investing heavily in the growth of international tourism in the Bomba area. Programme services play an important role, as international tour operators always buy packages including accommodation, catering and programme services. In the future, we will be able to provide excursion programs also for larger groups,” Näsärö continues.

Minna Heikkinen, Managing Director at Pielinen Karelia Development Center PIKES Ltd, states that Bomba's new services are important not only from the point of view of internationalization, but also from the point of view of regional development. "The new experience service company will increase the vitality of the entire Nurmes region, offering local tourism companies and other operators new opportunities as service providers," Heikkinen says.

Bomba benefits from versatile services

Sanna Tenhunen, General Manager at Break Sokos Hotel Bomba, is excited about the upcoming service expansion. “Our magnificent nature location, in the coastal landscape of Lake Pielinen, provides a great setting for memorable experiences. Experiencing it all now becomes even easier. Programme services are a long awaited addition to the existing spa and cultural offerings of the Karelian village. It already offers a disc golf course, a lakeside sauna and campfire sites. In addition, the hotel's magnificent extension with lakeview rooms will open on Midsummer.”

"We will from then on be offering guided tours in accordance with a weekly program. We make booking easy: the tours will have guaranteed departures without a minimum participation requirement. Parallel to our own programme service production, we will work closely with local actors. Alpaca walks and husky trips are examples of further offers,” Tenhunen explains.

Own beauty salon and S barbershop-hair salon

The hotel's own beauty salon, which opens on Midsummer, will offer hot stone treatments, facials and indulgent foot treatments. An S barbershop-hair salon will also be opened in the hotel's premises.

These new pampering services are responses to customer demand. "Local residents have been wishing for S barbershop-hair salon services in Nurmes for a long time, and tourists for a beauty salon at Break Sokos Hotel Bomba. These types of services are, after all, part of a spa experience," Mari Karhu, Group Manager at PKO's wellness services, explains.

This is new at Bomba from summer 2024:
