Osuuskauppa Keskimaa's Solo Sokos Hotel Paviljonki has won two award categories in one of the world's most prestigious hotel business competitions. The awards for Best Luxury Hotel in Finland and Best Luxury Design Hotel in Finland were taken home to Jyväskylä's Paviljonki from the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2015 gala. The gala was held in Hong Kong on 24 October 2015, where Hannu Nirkkonen, general manager of Solo Sokos Hotel Paviljonki picked up the awards.
"It was truly an honour to participate in the competition and to travel to represent our hotel and our brilliant staff. The event helped me to better appreciate the true value of our achievement: the participants were top hotels from across the world from truly amazing places. What also became clear at the gala was that we all share a genuine will to serve our customers passionately and better, every single day. You have to willing to go the extra mile and a show genuine interest in the individual needs of the customers," Nirkkonen said after the event.
The World Luxury Hotel Awards has been described as the Academy Awards of the hotel industry. The aim is to encourage and reward top-class hotels that have invested in their surroundings and service selections as well as quality of service and, as a consequence, have taken the step from "good" to "excellent". The preconditions for being a luxury hotel not only include good food and service, but also increasingly individual care of customers, surprise elements and hospitality.
"This award belongs to our staff, comprised of top professionals in the hospitality business. We have a great team that takes the pleasure and well-being of our guests as its number one duty. Our staff have determinedly built a strong, individual-oriented service culture since we opened in summer 2012. The bar is consistently high when it comes to serving and pleasantly surprising our customers," says Hannu Nirkkonen.
Solo Sokos Hotel Paviljonki was entered in the World Luxury Hotel Awards competition by its customers. Every year, there are more than 1,000 nominees.
The competition has 52 categories in which hotels are evaluated by country, by continent and globally. The winners are selected based on votes from hotel guests and an international jury comprising travel and hospitality professionals. The members of the jury could spend the night at the hotels either officially or as "mystery guests". The cooperation partners of the World Luxury Hotel Awards include international travel industry magazines and TV channels.
This year, another Sokos hotel also received an award: Osuuskauppa Hämeenmaa's Solo Sokos Hotel Lahden Seurahuone received the award for Best Luxury City Hotel in Europe. Last year, Original Sokos Hotel Ilves from Tampere was successful in the competition.
Ever since its opening, Solo Sokos Hotel Paviljonki has consistently achieved the highest scores for customer satisfaction. In TripAdvisor's Travellers Choice evaluations, Paviljonki was ranked third in the Finnish top 25 list, and seventh in 2015. On the list published by travel search company Trivago a few weeks ago, Solo Sokos Hotel Paviljonki was ranked sixth among Finnish hotels.
