The Certificate of Quality, awarded by the Sauna from Finland Association signifies that the sauna experience offered by Hotel Ilves is among the best in the world.
The spa department of Original Sokos Hotel Ilves has undergone significant redevelopment over the past two years, beginning with a comprehensive renovation of the sauna and pool areas in spring 2014. Cooperation with the Sauna from Finland Association began a year ago.
"Many hotels have sauna facilities, but their development has often been overshadowed by other services. Hotel Ilves is the frontrunner, taking the plunge and developing a holistic and multisensory sauna experience. The Certificate of Quality was born out of persistent work to improve the sauna experience," says the Sauna from Finland Association's Executive Director, Carita Harju.
Hotel Ilves is the Sokos Hotels chain's pilot project in defining what a high-quality sauna experience consists of. The partnership between the Sauna from Finland Association, which works to promote the Finnish sauna experience, and Hotel Ilves, included a customer survey on quality criteria, where over 2,000 people were asked what they value in a good sauna experience. The survey showed that among the most important things listed were cleanliness, safety and good ancillary services.
The Sauna from Finland Association performed an official audit of Hotel Ilves' sauna facilities in October 2015, after which the sauna services received further improvements.
The hotel staff have been trained in sauna cleaning and the sauna facilities now have guide signs for foreign travellers, who might be having their first sauna experience.
"There is great interest around the world in the Finnish sauna. We want to use our first-class sauna services and create an equally relaxing atmosphere for those who aren't familiar with the sauna. We make sure that everyone has all that they need, from basic supplies, instructions and fresh, flavoured drinking water. This allows our guests to focus on relaxation in the soothing heat," says Original Sokos Hotel Ilves manager, Irmeli Puolanne.
The spa services are, in addition to the hotel guests, available to everyone in the area. The bottom floor of Hotel Ilves' spa section hosts a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, children's pool, men's and women's saunas and a separate private sauna that is available for reservation. Guests are services by the spa section's lobby bar that sells refreshments and small snacks. The spa section is also located near the hotel gym as well as two fully equipped cabinets that are suited for dinners, meetings and after-sauna relaxation. The hotel's Maisema cabinet, on the top floor, also has a sauna that can be reserved.
