Helsinki ravintolat HOK-Elanto korona

Dear customer, our restaurants are temporarily closed!

Let's keep all those at risk safe and stay healthy. Once the epidemic is beaten, we welcome you back to tickle your taste buds! Read more!

All 82 HOK-Elanto restaurants will be temporarily closed by Monday 23 March. Restaurant personnel will be transferred to secure their area's food supply in our nearly 200 supermarket stores.

"The core function of a co-operative is to provide its members with benefits and services. In these very exceptional circumstances, we have decided that this purpose is best fulfilled by securing the most basic need of our members: food supply", says HOK-Elanto's CEO Veli-Matti Liimatainen.

HOK-Elanto's supermarket trade chains (Prisma, S-market, Alepa, Food Market Herkku and online services) can immediately employ the nearly 800 restaurant employees at their stores in a variety of tasks with flexible duties and schedules for the duration of these exceptional circumstances.

Due to the current coronavirus epidemic, food is prepared more at homes than at restaurants, which creates pressure at supermarkets in offloading shipments, re-stocking shelves and customer service. Demand for online grocery shopping is also rapidly growing.

"To handle the increased pressure, we need more people so we can ensure the physical and psychological wellbeing of all our employees. Teamwork will help us overcome this challenge", Liimatainen continues.

Restrictions have been placed on opening hours of cafés and restaurants in several European countries.

"Demand in restaurants started waning already last week as the number of people working remotely increased. Although closing our restaurants temporarily is not yet mandatory, it is in line with the Finnish Government's guidelines and the recent decrees concerning the use of powers under the Emergency Powers Act. Our personnel will help their colleagues in supermarket trade with a positive attitude", says Henriikka Puolanne, COO at HOK-Elanto restaurants.
